Exodus 34:16 And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same.

Some back story: God is talking to Moses about going into new lands. You know taking over the promised land and being around people who did not believe in the Lord of Israel. This was a warning verse. A precaution if you will. A word of wisdom from the creator of wisdom. God knew why He said it. Regardless it seems like such a harsh word. To straight up call these daughters “PROSTITUTES”!

What exactly does the word “prostitute” even mean?

Google defines the verb of “prostitute” as:

Using this definition I have a clearer  understanding of this verse. I think I understand what God is trying to say about these girls.

You know the way that we as believers use our God given gifts and talents to serve, bless and glorify Christ, the same way these unbelieving daughters used their gifts and talents to worship idols. They gave their time, resources and efforts to corrupted and unworthy lower case g, gods.

God warns Moses against his people coming  together with these daughters, who would influence as women do. Three main points scream out at me from this one verse.

• Women: we have influence!!!

Ladies we are leaders whether we like it or not. Whether we want it or not. Our actions and decisions will lead others to make good, better, best or the opposite decisions.

Let’s not be those daughters that God warned Moses against.

Let’s not prostitute our gifts to unworthy and corrupt causes.

• Beware of who you are glorifying with your gifts and talents.

Let’s evaluate our projects. How we spend our time, our resources, our gifts and talents.

Let’s strive to be intentional.

Let’s live on purpose with the objective of glorifying the only one who truly deserves it: JESUS CHRIST!

• Beware of who you are joining your efforts with.

The recurring theme that I will not stop stressing because it can prevent  the most headaches and heartaches!

 

DO NOT BE UNEQUALLY YOKED!!!!

Yes this verse says daughters but what if I took some literally license here and rewrote it as “And when you choose some of their daughters SONS as wives HUSBANDS for your sons DAUGHTERS and those daughters SONS prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons DAUGHTERS to do the same.“

Sisters be reminded that you were created with special giftings for God’s own glory. Your purpose is greater than you could imagine. God’s plan is perfect and GOOD, you CAN trust Him!

Let’s choose to give Him the glory by living on purpose.

Heavenly Father, I pray that every reader that passes by this post may be inspired by the story of these daughters who were a warning. A warning against prostituting our talents and gifts for corrupted and unworthy causes. I pray that you may speak to the hearts of each reader Lord, that they may choose to glorify you. I pray that they may be intentional with their giftings. I pray that you may reveal their talents and purpose that they may have clear direction of how best to live for you and your glory. I thank you Jesus for your grace and mercy that we utterly do not deserve but which you continue to give generously. Thank you for hearing our prayers. Thank you for working behind the scene even we feel far from you. I pray a special blessing over every reader as we enter 2016. That they may have a closer and deeper encounter with you in this new year! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
